    Cocktail Bars in Miami

    Photo: Official website · freehandhotels.com

A formative Miami cocktail bar that helped make garden drinking, tropical ingredients and informal service a credible alternative to the city's velvet-rope nightlife. Its courtyard setting at Freehand Miami remains central to the concept.

    The Story

    Origin

Elad Zvi and Gabriel Orta launched Broken Shaker as a Miami Beach pop-up in 2012. It became a permanent fixture at Freehand Miami and subsequently provided the template for bars in other cities.

    Philosophy

Serious cocktail craft delivered without the formality or exclusivity often associated with luxury nightlife.

    Why Important

A key reference for Miami's contemporary cocktail movement and for the wider adoption of approachable, design-conscious hotel bars that attract locals as well as overnight guests.

    Differentiation

Broken Shaker combines destination-level cocktail credentials with the atmosphere of a casual backyard gathering.

    Food Philosophy

Drinks foreground fruit, herbs, spices and house-made preparations. The emphasis is on expressive combinations rather than a strictly classical cocktail repertoire.

    Guest Experience

Guests move between the intimate bar and a planted courtyard beside the hotel pool. The experience is sociable and relaxed, with cocktails providing the principal reason to visit.

    Design Philosophy

The bar works as part of a lived-in tropical retreat, using greenery, eclectic furnishings and outdoor social space instead of a monumental standalone interior.

    Design & Architecture

    Lighting

Warm, low-level illumination supports the transition from afternoon courtyard use to evening drinking.

    Furniture

An eclectic mix of casual outdoor seating and vintage-style furnishings.

    Materials

Wood, patterned textiles and abundant greenery.

    Architecture

Embedded within Freehand Miami's historic hotel setting, with much of its identity supplied by the courtyard and pool relationship.

    Design Language

Eclectic tropical residential style with vintage character.

    Interior Design

An intimate indoor bar opens into an outdoor environment of planting, mixed seating and informal gathering areas.
