    Wellness Retreats in Bali

    Photo: Official website · comohotels.com

A residential wellness retreat in the forested hills near Ubud, where personalised programmes combine movement, nutrition, treatments and restorative time outdoors. It is a defining expression of COMO's approach to wellness-led hospitality.

    The Story

    Origin

Opened in 2005 under COMO founder Christina Ong, the estate established a residential home for the COMO Shambhala wellness concept in Bali.

    Philosophy

Wellness is organised across the whole stay, including food, movement, treatments and rest, rather than confined to a spa appointment.

    Why Important

The estate is an important reference for Bali's position in international wellness tourism. It illustrates an established model of programme-led luxury hospitality in which wellbeing shapes the core product.

    Differentiation

It integrates structured wellness support with the service and privacy of a luxury estate, offering a more comprehensive proposition than a conventional resort spa.

    Food Philosophy

COMO Shambhala Cuisine emphasises nutrient-conscious preparation and balanced meals, alongside Indonesian cooking that connects the retreat to its setting.

    Guest Experience

Guests can combine accommodation with personalised wellness programmes, consultations, treatments and activities such as yoga and Pilates. The steep, lush grounds make the landscape a significant part of the stay.

    Design Philosophy

The estate uses residential-scale buildings, local materials and immersion in greenery to create a private, domestic atmosphere rather than an institutional wellness environment.

    Design & Architecture

    Lighting

Natural light and deep shade shape the interiors, supported by subdued lighting after dark.

    Furniture

Residential seating, timber pieces and outdoor daybeds support a relaxed, private-house atmosphere.

    Materials

Timber, natural stone, thatch and textiles.

    Architecture

A dispersed collection of residences, suites and villas follows the wooded terrain above the Ayung River.

    Design Language

Understated tropical residential design with Balinese influences.

    Interior Design

Open living areas, crafted details and restrained decoration keep attention on the gardens and forest.
