    Private Island Resorts in Maldives

    Photo: Official website · soneva.com

A pioneering Maldivian retreat that made barefoot informality compatible with exceptional comfort. Forest-screened villas, expansive beaches and an established environmental programme distinguish Soneva Fushi from the more polished visual conventions of island luxury.

    The Story

    Origin

Sonu Shivdasani and Eva Malmström Shivdasani opened Soneva Fushi in 1995, establishing the first resort of the Soneva brand.

    Philosophy

Luxury is framed around time, space, nature and memorable experiences rather than formal display.

    Why Important

A formative property in the development of barefoot luxury and environmentally minded resort hospitality.

    Differentiation

Its mature island vegetation and long-running environmental initiatives give substance to a less formal interpretation of ultra-luxury.

    Food Philosophy

Produce-led dining, island gardens and visiting culinary talent support a varied programme across distinctive settings.

    Guest Experience

Barefoot living is paired with attentive service, marine excursions, an outdoor cinema, an observatory and extensive family facilities.

    Design Philosophy

Villas prioritize privacy, natural textures and immersion in the island landscape.

    Design & Architecture

    Lighting

Daylight, shaded openings and warm evening illumination support the indoor-outdoor setting.

    Furniture

Relaxed timber pieces, daybeds and generously scaled seating.

    Materials

Timber, woven fibres and natural textiles.

    Architecture

Low-rise beach villas are tucked into vegetation, with a separate collection of overwater accommodation.

    Design Language

    Rustic, nature-led island luxury.

    Interior Design

Open, informal layouts combine generous living areas with tactile, deliberately unpolished finishes.
