A riverside boutique hotel created by the Sukosol family with designer Bill Bensley. Opened in 2012, it pairs Art Deco references, Thai antiques and generous garden spaces, offering a distinctive alternative to Bangkok's large luxury towers.

    The Story

    Origin

Opened in 2012, The Siam grew from the Sukosol family's hospitality background and Kriss Sukosol Clapp's interest in antiques and collecting. Bill Bensley translated those influences into an intimate riverfront hotel.

    Philosophy

The property approaches hospitality as entry into a collector's world, with privacy, personal interests and cultural objects taking precedence over conventional corporate luxury.

    Why Important

A key Bangkok reference for design-led boutique luxury. It demonstrates how an independent hotel can establish international recognition through a coherent creative identity rather than scale.

    Differentiation

The combination of low-rise riverfront planning, a collector-led interior narrative and Bensley's theatrical design separates it from both business hotels and more conventional heritage properties.

    Food Philosophy

Thai cooking anchors the dining identity, particularly at Chon Thai, where traditional timber houses make architecture part of the dining experience.

    Guest Experience

Suites and pool villas support a residential rhythm, complemented by river journeys, spa treatments and Muay Thai training. Its Dusit location creates a quieter base away from the principal commercial hotel districts.

    Design Philosophy

Architecture, gardens and collected objects operate as a unified composition. Strong geometric lines give visual order to interiors filled with antiques, artworks and historical references.

    Design & Architecture

    Lighting

Atriums and garden openings bring daylight into the interiors. Decorative lighting creates more intimate settings around seating and displays.

    Furniture

Antique and vintage pieces sit alongside tailored upholstered furniture, reinforcing the impression of a private collection rather than a standard hotel furnishing programme.

    Materials

Dark timber, pale stone surfaces, metal detailing, glass and lush planting establish a strong contrast between architectural structure and tropical surroundings.

    Architecture

A low-rise riverfront composition of suites, villas, courtyards and gardens. Traditional Thai timber houses form part of the dining setting.

    Design Language

Art Deco geometry, monochrome contrasts, Thai historical references and densely curated antiques, softened by tropical planting.

    Interior Design

Bill Bensley's interiors juxtapose monumental, ordered spaces with intimate displays of art and collectibles. Circulation spaces are treated as part gallery and part domestic setting.

    Graphic Identity

A restrained identity allows the architecture, collected objects and high-contrast interiors to carry much of the hotel's visual character.
