    Photo: Official website · dishoom.com

The original Dishoom introduced a richly narrated interpretation of Bombay's Irani cafés to London. Breakfast, shared plates and an accessible approach to atmosphere helped establish a highly influential restaurant brand.

    The Story

    Origin

Dishoom began in Covent Garden in 2010, drawing on the social life and food traditions of Bombay's Irani cafés. The original restaurant was subsequently enlarged and redesigned.

    Philosophy

A restaurant can function as an inclusive social institution while telling a specific cultural story.

    Why Important

A useful reference for scaling a hospitality concept while retaining a strong narrative and individual site identities.

    Differentiation

Food, interiors, written storytelling and service operate as a unified brand system.

    Food Philosophy

The menu spans breakfast, grills, biryanis and slow-cooked dishes, balancing recognisable signatures with the breadth of Bombay's eating culture.

    Guest Experience

An all-day rhythm allows the same restaurant to serve breakfast meetings, informal lunches and lively group dinners.

    Design Philosophy

Layered historical references give the space the character of an imagined, long-established institution.

    Design & Architecture

    Lighting

Layered lighting supports a transition from daytime café to evening restaurant.

    Furniture

Café-style seating arranged for a busy, sociable dining room.

    Design Language

Narrative-led nostalgia with Bombay café and theatrical references.

    Interior Design

The redesigned Covent Garden restaurant draws on Bombay's early cinema culture as well as its café heritage.

    Graphic Identity

Menus and printed storytelling are central to the brand's historical world-building.
