    Photo: Official website · seacontainerslondon.com

A Thames-side hotel whose Tom Dixon-led interiors reinterpret the glamour and engineering of ocean travel. Its restaurants, bars and river-facing public spaces make it a social destination as well as a place to stay.

    The Story

    Origin

Opened as Mondrian London in 2014 within Sea Containers House. It adopted the Sea Containers London name in 2019.

    Philosophy

The hotel acts as a lively urban meeting place, with public venues carrying as much character as the guestrooms.

    Why Important

A strong example of design-led hotel conversion and the use of bars and restaurants to connect a hotel with its neighbourhood.

    Differentiation

Its large-scale copper forms and transatlantic references give an adapted commercial building a memorable hospitality identity.

    Food Philosophy

Dining and drinks are organised as destination experiences that also draw a local audience.

    Guest Experience

A dramatic arrival sequence leads to river-facing dining, cocktail venues, guestrooms and wellness facilities.

    Design Philosophy

The riverside location and building name inform an abstract maritime narrative rather than literal nautical decoration.

    Design & Architecture

    Lighting

Statement fixtures and atmospheric lighting distinguish social spaces from circulation areas.

    Furniture

Contemporary furniture with sculptural profiles and lounge-oriented proportions.

    Materials

Copper, marble, polished metal and richly coloured upholstery.

    Architecture

A hotel conversion within Warren Platner's Thames-side Sea Containers House.

    Design Language

Transatlantic modernism with industrial and maritime references.

    Interior Design

Design Research Studio established a bold visual narrative through sculptural forms, reflective surfaces and ocean-liner references.
