Dave Pynt's fire-led restaurant made open-hearth cooking a major part of Singapore's contemporary dining identity. Now based at Dempsey Hill, Burnt Ends combines serious produce and technical control with the energy of an open kitchen.
Burnt Ends opened on Teck Lim Road in 2013 before relocating to a larger Dempsey Hill site in 2021.
The restaurant uses fire as a complete cooking system, not simply a finishing technique or a visual attraction.
It established an internationally recognized, Singapore-based expression of modern Australian barbecue and demonstrated the global appeal of a chef-led restaurant built around a single cooking medium.
Burnt Ends bridges the produce standards of fine dining and the sociability of a barbecue restaurant without relying on a conventional tasting-menu format.
Custom-built ovens and grills underpin a changing menu of vegetables, seafood and meat. Smoke, embers and high heat are applied with precision rather than uniformly heavy flavors.
Guests encounter an animated, comparatively informal environment, with the cooking process visible and dishes suited to a shared meal.
The kitchen is the organizing feature of the restaurant, making preparation and cooking central to the room's identity.
Warm lighting complements the visible glow of the cooking hearth.
Counter seating is complemented by dining tables and private dining provision.
Brick, timber and metal reinforce the working-kitchen character.
Occupies a low-rise building in Dempsey Hill's former military precinct.
Robust, kitchen-centered contemporary dining.
The open kitchen, bespoke ovens and counter seating keep the culinary operation in view.
