Han Li Guang's restaurant treats Singaporean food memories as material for an ambitious contemporary tasting menu. Labyrinth is an important local counterpoint to the city's French and internationally oriented fine-dining establishments.

    The Story

    Origin

Former banker Han Li Guang opened Labyrinth in 2014, developing a restaurant that moved from experimental reinterpretation toward a more personal examination of Singaporean food culture.

    Philosophy

Local culinary identity is treated as a living subject, open to reinterpretation without losing its emotional and cultural references.

    Why Important

Labyrinth has helped establish contemporary Singaporean cuisine as a serious fine-dining proposition, broadening the conversation about what luxury dining in the city can represent.

    Differentiation

Singapore itself is the restaurant's central culinary subject, rather than merely its location.

    Food Philosophy

Tasting menus draw on hawker dishes, family meals and familiar Singaporean flavors, using contemporary techniques and ingredients from local producers where possible.

    Guest Experience

A guided sequence of dishes invites diners to recognize familiar flavors in unexpected forms, with explanations connecting the meal to places, producers and memories.

    Design Philosophy

The dining room serves primarily as a focused stage for the food and its accompanying narratives.

    Design & Architecture

    Lighting

Focused table lighting supports a theatrical presentation of individual courses.

    Architecture

Located within the Esplanade performing arts complex.

    Design Language

    Intimate, restrained contemporary dining.

    Interior Design

An enclosed dining room keeps attention on the tasting menu and its storytelling.
